Wal-Mart is still a giant amoung retailers and likely will be for a few years yet however they are losing ground. As this article points out.
The article talks about how Wal-Mart is losing customers and competitors are chipping away at its dominates. Some customers are complaining about lack of lower prices or missing name brand, quality products that once made Wal-Mart what it is.
There are other problems with Wal-Mart that goes beyond "in-store" shopping. Customer service at Wal-Mart has become almost as bad as trying to call the Yahoo services for help - next to worthless and not effective in getting results. Another problem is Wal-Mart has many registers yet it isn't uncommon to find long lines in the few they will actually have open at any given time. What is the point of having 20 to 30 registers if you don't use more then five to ten of them at any given time?
Another problem at Wal-Mart is parking for handicapped people. It is fair to say here that Wal-Mart isn't alone in this. No business truly gives a damn about those folks who have legitimate handicap plates. It is a daily accurate to drive into a place of business only to fine two or three cars parked illegally in a handicap parking locations. Also it is fair to state that part of the blame is city policy also. Many times the city won't allow their police officers to enforce the laws concerning handicap parking. This is something I was informed of by both Wal-Mart and the city personal I spoke with via phone the other day while complaining about two cars. My girlfriend and I are both handicap and value those spaces.
